Our impact on the planet is essential to us and our company’s mission and we have big news to share! Going forward, Handy Band will be using environmentally friendly materials.
Cotton is a post consumer friendly material, as it's fibers are naturally occurring, but what about buttons? As a company, we wanted to move forward and away from plastic and resin buttons, which have a difficult time breaking down post consumption. We searched high and low for another material that was naturally occurring and are excited to say we found our match — meet Corozo Buttons! It’s a natural button company making buttons using nuts called corozo or tagua that come from a tropical palm. The fruit of this palm is a foot in diameter, and covered in spikes. Its seeds yield an extremely versatile material, which has been referred to as "vegetable ivory." The corozo buttons are an important part of our environmentally friendly face mask that will also be made in the USA.
Corozo is a natural product made up of organic fibers that lend it to being extremely durable and scratch resistance. Being a porous material, they are easily dyed and are available in a variety of colors. We are extremely excited to find an environmentally solution for buttons and are launching our new environmentally friendly masks soon! Stay tuned, and in the meantime, please check out the Corozo Buttons website for more information on the company and their product.
